VANCOUVER'S VACANT CITY RELEASING DEBUT ALBUM

Vancouver’s VACANT CITY is releasing its debut album “Forgotten Street” on Friday, March 5th 2010. The event will take place at the ANZA Club located at 3 West 8th Ave in Vancouver. Doors are at 8pm and the line up includes The Stumblers Inn, Silent Spring, and 2nd Floor Suicide. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. They are available on the band’s website: www.vacantcityband.com or at Zulu Records (1972 West 4th Ave, Vancouver).

Formed in late 2007, Brendan Albert (guitars, vocals), Chris Barrett (b***, vocals) and Dana Pemberton (drums, percussion) immediately recognized their ability to write and play music together. With an uncanny knack for writing catchy songs - matching melodic and driving guitar hooks and big vocal harmonies - VACANT CITY's sound has been described as “a blend of cl***ic 70’s style album-rock combined with a new modern groove.”

In 2009, the trio hit the studio with engineer Mike Southworth (Scatterheart) to work on their full-length debut CD “Forgotten Street”. The album was mixed and co-produced by Doug Naugler (Sweatshop Union, Gaye Delorme,The Rebel Spell) and mastered by Craig Waddell (Sarah McLaughlan, Mother Mother, Aaron Pritchett). To promote their debut release the band also recruited the talents of renowned director Douglas Thomson (Manakin, Pacifika, The Evidence) to produce and direct a music video for ‘My Everything’ which will be debuting within days of the release party.

The Unravelling's

Worldwide—With over 30,000 views and rising, the “Fire Breather” video’s presence on YouTube has certainly made an impact. Coming across as a band with a philosophy, The Unravelling has created a cult-like following that continues to grow as fast as the hits on You Tube.

This is music with a real message; heart pounding music for the m***es that forces the listener to think. Just as the “Fire Breather” Tibetan video is a raw depiction of a wicked truth, and thus being a powerful musical piece, their new album “13 Arcane Hymns” is sure to be a worldwide hit filled with music with a message.

""Fire Breather" was written as a stream of consciousness, states The Unravelling’s Steve Moore. There was no particular theme in mind besides the very personal lyrics. After recording the song and reading the news in 2009 of the intensive struggle of the Tibetan people, and how on some occasions the Tibetan monks would even set themselves on fire as a means of protest - self sacrifice, I was amazed at the parallels between their struggle and the lyrics in the song, and I'm happy it has this kind of double meaning now."

There is no doubt that The Unravelling makes one think, listen and open their minds to a wider world view and awareness. Hailing from Calgary, Canada, the members are inspired by a very diverse range of artists, such as Dead Can Dance, Tool, Opeth, Nine Inch Nails, Arcana, Jeff Buckley and Dillinger Escape Plan. At first listen an audience can without a doubt hear those influences. Especially in “Fire Breather,” a strong Opeth and Nine Inch Nails vibe is felt. Pure Grain Audio describes their sound as “tactfully diverse music that’s overflowing with a bloodthirsty p***ion.” Here's the video - but be fore warned - it's very graphic and disturbing:
